The Township of Macdonald, Meredith and Aberdeen Additional’s landfill is located at 503 Watson Road. There is a ‘Share Shed’ available here. Clothing is not accepted.
There is only one recycling depot in our township. It is located at the landfill in the back half of the share shed, under the roof and is open during landfill hours.
Please break up your cardboard, and ensure recycled items are not in bags.
There is a scrap metal bin available at the landfill site to take all metals (NO PROPANE TANKS). Check with the attendant for further instruction.
There is an electronics bin for computers, tv’s, stereos etc. Coffee makers and microwaves do not go in this bin. Please check with the attendant so, they can dispose of the electronics for you.
We do have a burn barrel available for clean wood and brush.
Do not dispose of hazardous materials at the landfill.
The Township of Macdonald, Meredith & Aberdeen Additional is reminding all residents that propane tanks are not accepted at the Echo Bay Landfill unless they have been fully cut open.
Any intact propane tank, regardless of size or whether it appears empty, must be taken to the Sault Ste. Marie Household Hazardous Waste Depot for proper disposal.
Propane tanks can retain residual gas even after they seem empty. When these tanks end up in a landfill pile, they can be:
Crushed by heavy machinery
Punctured
Packed into loads that go to industrial shredders
Any of these actions can cause an explosion or fire.
This puts our landfill staff, equipment operators, and waste processors in serious danger of severe injury or death.
Recently, intact propane tanks were found in a load removed from our site, creating a high-risk situation for downstream processors.
Do NOT dispose of intact propane tanks at the landfill.
Only tanks that have been fully cut open may be accepted.
All intact tanks must go to the Hazardous Waste Depot in Sault Ste. Marie.
We take this safety issue very seriously and ask all residents to do the same.
Thank you for helping keep our landfill, staff, and community safe.
