Emergency Update: June 21, 2022

The Township was able to secure two certified potable water carrier trucks that have each been hauling six loads of treated water to the Environment Centre on a daily basis. This has enabled us to maintain enough water for our current consumption during this water emergency. We have received favourable water test results so far and the Ontario Clean Water Agency is working with the Ministry of Environment and Algoma Public Health to begin the process of flushing the water treatment plant in preparation for turning the intake pipe back on in the near future.

We thank all residents in the village of Echo Bay for doing their part during this emergency, all residents are asked to continue conserving water until the Ministry of Environment and Algoma Public Health gives us the “all clear” to begin treating water and there is no longer a public safety concern.

We have received correspondence from Algoma Steel that they will be assisting with the financial costs of this water emergency and we will begin discussions with them once this emergency is over.
