The 2026 Municipal Election will be conducted using online voting. Eligible voters will be able to vote securely during the voting period from anywhere with internet access.

Thinking of running for Council? This information session is for you.

Join us on Monday, June 1 at 7:00 p.m. at Bruce Station Hall, 109 Station Road to learn about the roles and responsibilities of an elected official.

The session will feature Sarah Cormier from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing. Municipal Clerks will also be available to answer questions and assist with applications.

This is a great opportunity for anyone considering running in the 2026 Municipal Election to learn more about the process and what to expect.

How to Vote

The 2026 Municipal Election will be conducted using online voting. Voting is secure, convenient, and can be done from anywhere during the voting period.

Step 1: Receive Your Voter Information Letter (VIL)

Eligible voters will receive a Voter Information Letter by mail prior to the voting period. This letter will include instructions on how to vote, along with your unique voting credentials.

Step 2: Access the Voting System

During the voting period, visit the secure voting website using the link provided in your Voter Information Letter. Enter your credentials and follow the on-screen instructions to access your ballot.

Step 3: Cast Your Vote

Review your selections carefully and submit your ballot. Once your vote has been cast, you will receive confirmation that your ballot has been successfully submitted.

Need help? A Vote Help Centre will be available at the Municipal Office during the voting period to assist voters who require access to a device or support with the voting process.

A Vote Help Centre will be available at the Municipal Office during the voting period to assist voters who require help accessing the voting system.

The Vote Help Centre can also assist voters who did not receive a Voter Information Letter or who require updates to their voter information. Where possible, voters are encouraged to confirm or update their information online in advance of the voting period.

The Vote Help Centre is intended to support voters who may not have access to a device or internet connection, or who require assistance navigating the online voting process.

Please note: Township staff can assist voters with accessing the voting system; however, voters must cast their own ballot.

Voter Information

To vote in the 2026 Municipal Election, you must be:

  • A Canadian citizen;
  • At least 18 years old;
  • A resident of the Township of Macdonald, Meredith & Aberdeen Additional, or the owner or tenant of land in the Township, or the spouse of such owner or tenant; and
  • Not prohibited from voting under any law.

Voters must be on the Voters List to receive a Voter Information Letter and participate in the election.

Note: The Voters List is provided by Elections Ontario. Voters are encouraged to confirm or update their information in advance to ensure they receive their Voter Information Letter.

If you are unable to update your information online, assistance is available through the Township.

The Voters List for the 2026 Municipal Election is provided by Elections Ontario. Voters are encouraged to confirm or update their information in advance to ensure they receive their Voter Information Letter and are ready to vote during the voting period.

You may need to update your information if you have recently moved, changed your name, own or rent property in the Township, or believe your information may be missing or incorrect.

Did not receive a Voter Information Letter? If you believe you are eligible to vote but did not receive your Voter Information Letter, please contact the Township or attend the Vote Help Centre for assistance.

Wherever possible, voters are encouraged to confirm or update their information online in advance of the voting period.

Running for Council

Individuals interested in running for office in the 2026 Municipal Election may file nomination papers for the following positions:

  • Mayor (1 to be elected)
  • Councillor (4 to be elected)

Nomination Deadline August 21, 2026 at 2:00 p.m.
Filing Fee Mayor: $200
Councillor: $100
Where to File Township Office during regular office hours. Candidates are strongly encouraged to schedule an appointment with the Clerk.

Candidates must file the required nomination forms and pay the applicable filing fee before the nomination deadline.

Candidate Eligibility

To run for office in the 2026 Municipal Election, you must be:

  • A Canadian citizen;
  • At least 18 years old;
  • A resident of the Township of Macdonald, Meredith & Aberdeen Additional, or the owner or tenant of land in the Township, or the spouse of such owner or tenant; and
  • Not prohibited from holding municipal office under any law.

Certain individuals, including employees of the Township, may be required to take a leave of absence before filing a nomination.

Prospective candidates are encouraged to contact the Clerk to confirm their eligibility prior to filing.

Third Party Advertising

Individuals, corporations, or trade unions that wish to advertise in support of, or in opposition to, a candidate must register as a Third Party Advertiser with the Township.

Third party advertising includes any message in any medium (including signs, print, radio, or online) that supports or opposes a candidate in the election.

Registration Period Opens May 1, 2026
Registration Deadline October 23, 2026

Third Party Advertisers must register before incurring any expenses or running advertisements.

Important: Failure to register as a Third Party Advertiser may result in penalties under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996.

Election Results

Unofficial election results for the 2026 Municipal Election will be posted here following the close of voting on Voting Day.

Official results will be declared by the Clerk after certification in accordance with the Municipal Elections Act, 1996.

Results will be available here on Voting Day.
