Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act

Access to information and privacy

The Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) provides an individual with the right to access information under the custody and control of an institution, including one’s own personal information (Section I – MFIPPA). In accordance with MFIPPA, a formal request for information can be submitted to obtain records from the municipality. There are certain limitations that may exclude records from being disclosed, such as: the records may be exempt from disclosure under the Act, another institution may have a greater interest in the records, or the request may be considered frivolous or vexatious.

Individuals wishing to access municipal government records should begin by contacting the Township of Macdonald, Meredith & Aberdeen Additional. Staff will determine if the request should be submitted formally under the Act or if the information can be provided as business as usual. 

It is important to note that the rules governing access and privacy under MFIPPA apply to both formal and informal requests for information.

Submitting a request for information

  • Begin by contacting the Clerk of the Township of Macdonald, Meredith & Aberdeen Additional for more infromation. Most records can be released without having to submit a formal request and the Clerk Administrator can let you know if the information can be provided as business as usual or if it should be submitted formally under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (the Act).

Requests by mail

Should you wish to submit your request and the mandatory $5 application fee by mail, please complete the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) access form, select “Mail in/in-person” under “Payment options”, then print, sign and date the form.

Please note the following considerations when submitting your request by mail:

  • We only accept money orders, cash, cheques or debit.
  • Cheques are payable to the Township of Macdonald, Meredith & Aberdeen Additional
  • Credit card payments are not accepted.

Payments are credited only when received and processed, not the postmarked day.

In-person

The following service will be provided in person. We strongly recommend you schedule an appointment with us, but walk-ins will be accepted during regular office hours.
